Yazoo get reconnected

21st March 2008 Print
25 years after helping to change the direction of British music, Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet are back together as Yazoo. The band are set to embark on a world tour taking in the UK, Europe and the USA.

After Vince found fame as founder member and main songwriter in Depeche Mode, the floppy-haired keyboard maestro responded to an advert placed in Melody Maker by fellow Basildonian Alison and they formed Yazoo. They quickly became one of the UK’s most respected musical duos, leaving their mark on the charts.

The debut album Upstairs at Eric’s spawned two of the 80s greatest pop songs and one of the most influential dance tracks ever; the haunting soulful techno blues of Only You, the powerful up-tempo pop of Don’t Go and the icy groove of Situation.

Yazoo were at the top of their game, consolidating the success of their album with a series of gigs, taking them around the world to rapturous audiences.

The follow up album, You and Me Both was released just as the band were splitting up, leaving fans desperate to hear the songs performed live. The song went on to reach No. 1 regardless.

This summer, Yazoo are reuniting for their first tour in almost 3 decades. The Reconnected Tour will see the duo playing rare material alongside their hits.

In more recent years, their profile has remained high thanks to their music being used in cult films and TV shows such as Napoleon Dynamite and The Office. They have continued to influence a whole new generation of synth pop stars like LCD Soundsystem. Even Alison’s laughter at the start of Situation was sampled for the worldwide 90’s hit Macarena!

The tour is preceded in May by the release of In Your Room, a 4-disc box set including the band’s two albums, B-Sides and a DVD featuring a short film containing exclusive new interviews with Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet and the promo videos for Don’t Go, The Other Side of Love, Nobody’s Diary and Only You.

"I hear you're buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator, and are throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real. You want to make a Yaz record." - Losing My Edge - LCD Soundsystem

“The delayed synth hook made me crazy and Alison Moyet's deep voice made me crazier. I figured that was what music in heaven sounded like. It made my hair stand on end.” said Andy Butler, Hercules And Love Affair.
