Rock before you can crawl

17th April 2008 Print
Rock before you can crawl Camden four piece The Bad Robots will only have to rock around the corner for their debut appearance in the 2008 Camden Crawl this Friday. Fresh off the bus from a whirlwind UK tour for Barfly in February, the boys have been working up a sweat across London with packed gigs at The Borderline (April 10) and The Water Rats (March 15).

Sounding like a band with a few albums under their belt already and with a live set that’s energetic and sweaty, The Bad Robots have been described as the rock n roll lovechild of The Clash and The Beach Boys. With clever lyrics, belting vocals and a refreshing dose of four part harmonies, The Bad Robots have an infectious quality, both for their catchy tunes and their natural stage presence.

The Bad Robots have worked hard to define their sound, and it paid off when the boys caught Jo Whiley’s attention with a performance of their anthemic Say What You Say, “I would play that tomorrow on my radio show – I thought it was excellent” she said.

Preparing to hit the studio to record their as yet untitled debut album, heavily bearded lead singer Ben is more than a little excited at the prospect, “We’ll be going into the studio to do it all old-school. All analogue all the way - which means a lot to us. No effects, no tricks and no digital corrections. It’s a bit of a dream come true for us to do an album this way – it’s going to be brilliant”.

The Bad Robots already feature on the fourth instalment of the Punktastic Un-Scene compilation series, the first on the Banquet Records label. A massive 99 tracks from 99 bands with the Robots coming in at track number 9 with Life Won’t Wait.

To catch The Bad Robots live on stage as part of the 2008 Camden Crawl, be at The World’s End by 3pm, Friday 18 April, 2008.

Should you find yourself somewhat infected by The Bad Robots sound and need to hear more, they’ll be supporting Dirty Pretty Things in a free performance at the latest Proud venue, the Horse Hospital, Stables Market, Camden, on 30 April, 2008.
