Design takes centre stage in Covent Garden
This year, in a coup for Covent Garden, Designersblock, the godfathers of the London Design Festival bring their acclaimed show to No.1 The Piazza. Designersblock will be the epicentre of a range of design exhibitions and installations in Covent Garden and the surrounding area as a new ‘hub’ destination for London Design Festival is established in the heart of the West End.One of the foremost events on the London Design Festival calendar, Designersblock is entering its 11th year and has until now been hosted at fringe venues across the capital. This move to Covent Garden signals a new relationship between the internationally acclaimed design festival and Covent Garden, an area that, with an ever-changing programme of events, champions London’s cultural institutions.
Designersblock will transform No.1 The Piazza into an extraordinary environment for showcasing emergent design. Previous shows have seen Designersblock launch the now ubiquitous Dutch designer Hella Jongerius and champion contemporary artist Stuart Haygarth. This year’s exhibition will again promote the very best of established and up-and-coming artists, including;
Recent Central St Martin’s graduates Kithkin who will present their online retail concept store, SomeRightsReserved; Karen Ryan; The Seoul Young Designers Pavilion ; Sante Kim and Esther Lee.
This latest collaboration will strengthen Covent Garden’s growing reputation as one of London’s most exciting public spaces. Covent Garden continues to create the conditions to enable real interaction and dialogue between designers, artists and the public. Building upon its history of combining entertainment and culture with diverse retail and dining, Designersblock continues Covent Garden’s evolution into a ‘must visit’ destination for Londoners and tourists alike.
