Remember, remember the ‘6th’ of November

Glasgow Fireworks 2008 are promising to be the most spectacular ever staged in the city despite being held a day later than usual. Around 50,000 people are expected to attend the event, which starts at 6.30pm on the 6th of November at Glasgow Green.

The theme for the event is West End Musicals and people attending will also be treated to a big-screen pre-show with Radio Clyde before the display itself starts at 7.30pm. The event has been moved back a day because of Manchester United’s Champions League clash with Celtic at Parkhead, the previous night.

During the display more than 3,000 fireworks will be set off with 6 crew working flat out over 2 days to make sure the event is memorable and safe. The event has been 10 months in the planning and organisers are asking people coming on Thursday to wrap up well in appropriate clothing and not to bring their own fireworks to ensure everyone has a safe and happy evening.

The theme for the event is West End Musicals to tie in with the visit of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat to the SECC in December and January. The show features one of the Josephs from the hit BBC programme, Craig Chalmers from Edinburgh. Anyone attending the fireworks making a special effort to dress in colourful clothing to mark the tie-in is in with a chance of winning tickets to the show which runs from 22 December to 10 January.

Lord Provost of Glasgow, Robert Winter said:"I am very much looking forward to the Fireworks this Thursday. It is a spectacular event and is always enjoyed by the tens of thousands who go to see it each year. It really is the safest and best way to enjoy the celebrations in Glasgow."
