Indian art comes to West London

12th January 2009 Print
It’s going to be a big year for India in the arts and Watermans in Brentford is delighted to be hosting, Indian Guardians, an exhibition of fifty paintings by artist, Apu Banga Debnath.

His compositions are elegant in their simplicity and endeavour to capture traditional scenes of Indian life which are fast disappearing with the economic transformation of recent years.

Imagination and Creativity are two cornerstones in the expression of art and Apu Banga Debnath demonstrates innate ability for both. Drawing is an integral part of any creative process here it gives form to Apu's imagination. His paintings -- drawn free hand are completed in acrylic on canvas -- demonstrate a skill and understanding of traditional approaches of the craft.

Apu, 38, a resident of West Bengal, is based in Mumbai, the art capital of India. He is a self taught artist, inspired by the rich tradition of Bengali art. He was spotted working on the pavement railing gallery outside the Jehangir Art Gallery in Bombay, and today, his work is sought after by international collectors. He has earned a reputation for his art in both the Indian and Western markets.

Apu has been a prolific artist since his childhood, and his paintings capture, the emotions, way of life, culture, colour, that fuses the “work” into a comprehensive expression of beauty which can be enjoyed endlessly. For those who have travelled to India, the paintings recall fond memories of the unique scenes of India and for those yet to travel to India the paintings entice a longing to experience the complex culture of India. These original works are available for purchase and make a wonderful gift or investment.
