Kids get cooking for world record attempt

On Friday 1st May, 100 pupils will travel to Alton Towers Resort to turn up the heat and help home appliance brand Belling set the Guinness World Record for the Most People Cooking Simultaneously.
Belling is attempting to break the record in a bid to keep Britain cooking and to raise awareness of the importance of food technology lessons in schools. The lucky schools were selected after a nationwide hunt was launched earlier this year. In addition to being given the chance to be Record Breakers, the schools will also receive £1,000 worth of Belling cooking equipment.
Liz McClarnon commented: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for four schools across the UK to take part in a Guinness World Record attempt. I am so excited to be involved – it is going to be a fantastic day and I can’t wait to meet the lucky 100 students who will be taking part.
“Learning basic cookery skills in schools is so important which is why I am supporting Belling – a world record attempt is a great way to get children interested in cooking. I am sure that the campaign will go a long way in highlighting the need for schools and the Government to invest in food technology, encouraging more children to leave school knowing the basics of how to cook healthy, balanced meals.
“Before taking part in Celebrity MasterChef I wasn’t that confident in the kitchen but now cooking is something that I am passionate about. I look forward to sharing my new found enthusiasm with the kids.”
Steve Dickson, commercial manager for Belling, added: “We are extremely excited about the Guinness World Record Attempt – it is the first time that Belling will be involved in such an event. At Belling, we are committed to raising awareness about the importance of basic cookery lessons and hope that this campaign will really put the focus on the importance of food technology, and help all schools to place a greater emphasis on teaching children the basics of cooking at an early age.”
