Makeover your space

From the waiting room at the railway station, to the room with the plastic seats in the old civic centre in town, they symbolise home. Yet wherever you go, they always have one thing in common, their questionable reputation in terms of design - the out dated furniture and the bad lighting.
Now a new competition can change all that, the YourSpace campaign gives you the chance to turn around your local tired old youth club into something spectacular.
We spend so much time creating the perfect home, with the right colours so it looks fresh and inviting, but we don't realise the impact the surrounding area can have on the value of our house, after all where you live, is more than just about the house you live in.
The campaign allows any local, indoor community space the chance to be redesigned and revitalised by top British designers Sir Terence Conran and Tara Bernerd from the mydeco design board. So why not get nominating online by submitting a photograph of the room and a few words on what it means to your community.
Campaign packs including posters and buttons that can be added to web pages are available to download to help you campaign for votes and get the nomination. A shortlist of spaces influenced by the public vote will be the basis in the process of selecting a winner.
Sir Terence Conran says "Good design has a tremendously positive effect on all our lives. If a space isn't working for the people that use it then it is failing the community it serves. Good design can improve the quality of all our lives through spaces and products that work well, are affordable and look beautiful."
So get online and get nominating and make a difference to your community, by giving a room the makeover it needs.
To nominate a local indoor public space to be redesigned visit - mydeco.com/yourspace - and send a photo along with 200 words summing up what the nominated building means to your community.
