A sense of romance at Harrods From 4th February to 28th March, Harrods is asking you to explore your senses by highlighting products across the store that arouse how you see, touch, smell, hear and taste. Valentine’s Day at Harrods is the perfect excuse to tantalise your lover’s senses with a choice of unusual and heart enhancing gifts.

A feast for the Senses

They say that the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach, and this year the famous Food Halls will be overflowing with ideas to put a little romance into your day.

Dom Pérignon Oenothèque Bar

Dom Pérignon is a ‘Tête de Cuvée’ Champagne (the very best from declared vintages), and is aged in the cellars before the wine is disgorged: the sediment removed and the bottle properly corked and labeled, ready to sell.

In order to be part of the Oenothèque collection, instead of being bottled after seven years, some of the wine is held back so that the yeast can mature further. Every year Richard Geoffroy, the chef de cave; Benoît Gouez, the oenologist, and others at the Abbey of Hautvillers taste the Champagne (cuvées generally age for 12 to 15 years, and up to more than 25 years) to determine whether it is worthy of release.

Because wine is an always-evolving creature, the Champagne that is disgorged 15 years after release will taste different from the same wine disgorged five years earlier. Or 10 years, or two years.

The rereleased wine will have the word ‘Oenothèque’ on the label, signifying that it came from the heart of the cellars at Dom Pérignon.

Located on the ground floor, next to Billionaire menswear and Brioni in Menswear, the Dom Pérignon Oenothèque bar will be a unique definition of luxury, and will launch on Monday 11th February as part of the ‘Senses’ promotion. The only bar in London that will feature one of the rarest Oenothèque vintages by the glass, it will draw inspiration from the latest Dom Pérignon advertising campaign, which features Claudia Schiffer, and was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld in his own apartment in Paris.

Two vintages will be available to purchase by the glass, and by the bottle, 1995 Dom Pérignon, a great year, with a bold expression and fairly light style, and 1973 Dom Pérignon, which is an extraordinary light straw colour and an unusually good citrus quality.

Prices will be £60 for a glass of 1995 Dom Pérignon and £250 for 1973 Dom Pérignon.

The Chocolate Room

This room will feature key pieces from some of the world’s most famous chocolatiers. Godiva introduces extravagant heart-shaped boxes draped in red suede and adorned with contemporary, sculpted roses. Inside, there are a selection of chocolates from their Gold Collection (made up of pralines, ganaches and caramels) as well as from their new limited-edition Mousse Collection – six new smooth chocolate shells with luscious mousse centres. Flavours include strawberry, hazelnut and passionfruit. Prices start from £30.

Michel Cluizel will be featuring a range of high cocoa content milk chocolates and dark chocolates from 20 different countries, including a line of Premier Cru Single Plantation chocolates. Their key pieces will include:

• Sachet Coeur passion £8.80
• Mini-nuancier ‘Je t’aime’ £3.70

Noka is the newest addition to the Harrods Chocolate room and was founded by two Canadians based in Texas. Noka’s molded chocolates and truffles are made with single-origin chocolate – chocolate that is made from beans grown and harvested in a single country of origin, rather than a blend of beans from different countries. The company takes great pride in the quality and purity of the chocolate. They focus solely on the highest-quality single-origin dark chocolate and as such there is no vanilla in any of their chocolate. Other chocolatiers on offer include Maison du Chocolat, Patchi, Galler, Harrods Belgian Chocolates and Leonidas.

Harrods Traiteur

Prepared by our own Chefs in the vast Harrods kitchens, the Traiteur counter will be offering a variety of foods to take home and serve. Firm favourites will include dressed lobster, heart shaped Beef Wellington for two and poached salmon.Or for small mouthfuls of indulgence, choose from a selection of wild caviars, including Sevruga, Oscietra and Beluga.

Caviar House & Prunier Oyster bar

Supposedly one of the greatest aphrodisiacs (Valentino swore by them!), the oyster bar will be offering a feast of oysters sourced from around the world, including:

• Fines de Claires A superior rock oyster that has been cultivated in a ‘Claire’ with a low density of stock and higher salinity levels.
• Mediterranean A rock oyster cultivated in the Mediterranean near Montpelier.
• Portland Royals Large rock oysters grown in small quantities in Portland: whole beds have been grubbed and reseeded to produce the larger Royals, and slightly smaller Princesses.
• Loch Ryans At the beginning of the last century, these Scottish oyster beds were a prolific producer of native oysters. These beds have now been rediscovered and restored to produce a fantastic oyster.
• Falmouth Oysters Falmouth Bay Oysters are caught by local fisherman in traditional sailing boats. Fishing methods have changed little since Roman times. Unlike the more commonly available farmed Pacific oyster, Falmouth Bay Oysters are taken from the natural sea bed, giving them a much fuller flavour.

Kiss it Better

This Valentine’s Day, Harrods will be supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Kiss it Better campaign. ‘Kiss it Better’ is the brainchild of Carmel Allen, as a result of her personal experience with her daughter Josephine’s illness. As Carmel explains, the name ‘Kiss it Better’ was chosen because “that is what every woman spontaneously says and does when she sees a child in pain.” Harrods will be partnering with Clinique to jointly donate all Clinique takings at Harrods on 14th February to Kiss it Better. Throughout February, Harrods will sell heart-shaped pink pin-badges with a diamanté star around the store in support of the campaign.

The Love Story Service
