Its official – men are the most romantic sex

18th September 2009 Print
Leading London breaks website Show-and-Stay.co.uk, reveals the nation’s romantic appetite is as strong as ever.

According to independent research*, 46% of men say they’ve made a romantic gesture in the last week, way ahead of women (38%). A further 24% of men say they’ve been romantic in the last month.

Unfortunately, the research shows that they may be on the wrong track. Men think romance lies in a lavish, candlelit dinner but women would prefer scattered rose petals on the bed and champagne on ice. Men are twice as likely to specify a well-sprung mattress as a “romantic break essential”.

Clichés remain true and women are using tiredness as an excuse with 23% saying it stops romance in its tracks. The biggest turnoffs for both sexes are bad manners and unsavoury personal habits (24%) or a partner answering their mobile phone (16%).

It’s good to see that whatever other differences there may be, both sexes agree, the top ingredient of a romantic break is making it a surprise, (47%).

Based on the research findings Show-and-Stay.co.uk is publishing its top tips for romantic weekend break at show-and-stay.co.uk/recipeforromance. The site also includes all the necessary elements for a romantic autumn break in London, including tickets for the best shows and cultural events, and a wide selection of hotels to suit all budgets. If that weren’t enough, Show-and-Stay.co.uk also offers customers a chance to save up to 40 per cent on rail journeys to the capital, as well as unbeatable rates for pre-booked dinner and tickets for many of the city’s greatest attractions.
