Harrods To Host Fine Tea Auction

20th March 2007 Print
If your taste for tea is more sophisticated than your average cuppa, then only the rarest of handpicked teas will do. For infusions best described as the Pétrus and La Táche of the tea world, head to the Harrods Fine Tea Auction and revive an annual tradition stretching back to 1679. This unique event takes place in the store’s stunning Georgian Restaurant on 25th April, with all proceeds going to humanitarian charity Action Against Hunger.

Hosted by Edward Eisler, tea merchant and supplier to Harrods, The Lanesborough and Coutts Bank, the auction will feature 20 limited edition teas, many from his private collection. Lots under the hammer at London’s first fine and rare tea auction for nine years include both aged and fresh varieties such as 1960 Wenshan Baozhong Oolong tea, which has a starting price of £200 for just 30g, as well as Dragon Well, one of the most sought after green teas in the world - with bids expected in excess of £1000 for 1kg, that’s quite a lot for a cuppa!

Guests from all over the world including Russia, China and the Middle East will begin by sampling three of the extremely rare teas being auctioned before enjoying Champagne Taittinger and canapés as concert pianist Roland Perrin plays.

Tickets are just £50 per person and include a Champagne Taittinger and canapé reception, fine tea sampling and live auction.
