Pick up a pudding and run for Cancer Research UK

Pick up a pudding and run for Cancer Research UK Pudding pandemonium is about to break out in Covent Garden with the Cancer Research UK Great Christmas Pudding Race. Teams in fancy dress are polishing up their pudding-balancing skills to negotiate an Its-A-Knockout-style course of inflatables while balancing a Christmas pud on a tray and being pelted with flour, foam and water.

This year the festive mayhem, now in its 27th year, in the Western piazza of Covent Garden, is focusing on raising money for childhood cancers.

Louise Selman, area volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “The countdown has begun to that time of year when great pudding rivalry breaks out among teams of our supporters. The race, which involves teams of students, friends, scientists and corporate supporters, is great fun to take part in and laugh-a-minute entertainment to watch. It’s a riot of fun and foam and has become a landmark in the Christmas shopping season at Covent Garden.

“The focus of the fundraising is on childhood cancers and we’re hoping to raise thousands of pounds to help fund our world-class research”.

The race, a classic example of English eccentricity, is open to teams of six and there is a £500 per team entry fee.
