The York Festival of Food and Drink 2008

The Festival – Britain’s biggest - runs for 10 days to celebrate all the very best in Yorkshire, regional and world food.
York’s historic locations at the centre of many events - Enjoy dinners in the majestic 15th century Guildhall, the glorious Mansion House and wine tastings inside York Minster, the Chapter House and the Bar Convent.
No Entrance Fee - Visit high quality produce stalls running the length of Parliament Street - the heartbeat of the Festival.
Experience the brand new Evening Fountain Cafe - Drop by after work or shopping, for beer, wine, live music and supper dishes from Ghanaian curry to a sizzling hog roast.
Better Food, Less Waste - This year’s theme encompasses how we shop to how we eat; both packaging and produce.
Schools Out - Our busy schools programme will continue to make good food fun for all ages.
Celebration Dinners - Go behind otherwise closed doors for a sumptuous Victorian dinner in the Mansion House. Try a curry cooked by York’s own Gurkha regiment, enter an irreverent Eurovision-style sausage competition and enjoy an evening dedicated to desserts.
Wine Programme - Look out for Champagne tasting, a Whisky Festival, daily tutored tastings and food and wine dinners.
The Festival will also feature established popular favourites like Slow Food workshops, the young chef’s competition, an ale trail, cocktail demonstrations, meal deals, kids day, farmers market and an army rations cook-off.
