Glasgow on a plate Scotland’s leading dining out festival, Gourmet Glasgow, kicks off for its seventh year on Monday 3rd August 2009 with a fine feast of events.

Run by the Glasgow Restaurateurs Association, Gourmet Glasgow runs throughout the month of August and provides a showcase of the city’s innovative restaurant scene.

With a wide range of events, exclusive menus and special ‘Dinearound’ offers available throughout the month, Gourmet Glasgow places food and drink firmly at centre stage.

Sponsored by Glasgow’s Malt Whisky Distillery, Auchentoshan, the calendar events for this year’s Gourmet Glasgow includes Seafood Week at An Lochan, The Auchentoshan Whisky Festival on 29th August, wine and local produce evening with John Quigley at Red Onion and a Celebrate Scotland menu at Cafe Andaluz.

One of the highlights of this year’s events will be the Food Critics Challenge Evenings, when well known Scottish restaurant writers such as Tam Cowan, Ron McKenna and Jonathan Trew will Maître’D for the night with all proceeds going to charity. The first Challenge Evening takes place on Monday 3rd August at The Grill on the Corner with Tam Cowan.

David Maguire, Chief Executive of the Glasgow Restaurateurs Association said;

“Glasgow is widely regarded as having the most complete restaurant scene outside of London. The choice and quality of dining experience on offer is second to none and we are the envy of many other UK and overseas cities. The GRA is a unique organisation, promoting excellence and innovation across the restaurant scene, and we’re delighted that the programme of events for the 7th Gourmet Glasgow is serving up some sensational food and drink experiences for residents and visitors alike.”

During Gourmet Glasgow, participating restaurants are offering special ‘Dinearound’ deals, starting from £15 per person. Sponsored by Auchentoshan, the ‘Dinearound’ deals include a complimentary dram of Glasgow’s iconic classic malt whisky for all offers booked online at graonline.co.uk.

The Glasgow Restaurateurs’ Association has grown over the years from a small handful of establishments to over 70 members. All GRA member restaurants must fulfil certain standards of food quality, service and industry reputation in order to join the Association.

The GRA offers a unique forum for widely diverse professionals to exchange ideas and experience with the common aim of promoting excellence within the Glasgow restaurant scene.

Details of all Gourmet Glasgow events and special offers are available at graonline.co.uk.
