Motoring's greener future on show in London

18th June 2008 Print
The future of greener motoring will be on display at The British International Motor Show (ExCeL London, 23 July to 3 August), alongside demonstrations of how drivers can cut vehicle emissions and lower running costs.

The Show has partnered with The Co-operative Insurance to create The Co-operative Insurance Greener Driving Pavilion which will feature interactive displays, vehicle cutaways and simulators. A range of exciting new environmental automotive technologies will also be showcased, including fuel cells, electric vehicles and hybrids.

A first for The British International Motor Show, The Co-operative Insurance Greener Driving Pavilion is being created in association with the Department for Transport's ACT ON CO2 campaign, which helps consumers choose cars with lower CO2 emissions and drive them in a more fuel efficient way.

In the Pavilion, drivers will be offered simple tips on ways they can make a difference to the environment and their bank balance. Those looking for further guidance on fuel-saving driving tips can visit the ACT ONCO2 website: dft.gov.uk/actonco2.

The Co-operative Insurance Greener Driving Pavilion is also supported by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, What Car? magazine and Michelin, which will demonstrate the benefits of its latest low-rolling resistance tyres.

Visitors to the Greener Driving Pavilion could be in with a chance of winning a new Mazda2 supermini, courtesy of The Co-operative Insurance. The Mazda2 is one of the greenest, most fuel-efficient cars in its class, helped by being a remarkable 100kg lighter than its predecessor.

The Co-operative Insurance Greener Driving Pavilion will help ensure this year's Show is set to be the biggest and best yet, with an additional 130,000 extra visitors expected to attend compared with the award-winning 2006 event. Cutting fuel costs and lowering CO2 emissions are hot topics for motorists and carmakers alike, and a significant proportion of the 600 vehicles on display at the Show will boast ‘green' credentials.

David Neave, Director of General Insurance at The Co-operative Insurance said: "In order to encourage even more people to adopt a ‘green driving' ethos The Co-operative Insurance has teamed up with Department for Transport's ACT ON CO2 campaign. The aim is to give motorists who want to go ‘green' a better understanding of Government schemes such as the new fridge-type efficiency labels on cars, tax bands on emissions and variable congestion charges.

"The Co-operative Insurance is a firm believer that every person - male and female - can make a ‘tiny difference' to climate change. There is now firm evidence that suggests motor vehicle emissions are having a detrimental impact on the environment. The combination of more ‘greener' cars being manufactured and the wider development of unique eco motor insurance products like our own, allows drivers to do just that."

Tickets for the Show start at just £10 for an adult weekday pass and £6 for a child's ticket. Tickets are available through the Show's all-new website at britishmotorshow.co.uk.
