13th December 2007 Print
Taste the sweet life at Harrods A favourite of Winnie the Pooh, and a firm breakfast favourite served with toast: honey has been a popular staple since Egyptian times. With the launch of Life Mel honey, priced at £50 for 113g, this product is now being elevated to a luxury food, with fans including Sienna Miller and Kylie Minogue.

Life Mel has been specially developed by an intensive production process: bees are given a pure diet of nectar that has been produced by putting hives in beds of specially selected herbs, including Siberian Ginseng, Echinacea and Uncaria Tomentosa (Cat’s Claw). The resulting honey is not artificially treated in any way and no ingredients are added after extraction from the hive. It has a distinctive aroma and flavour, and the herbs used have a number healthy benefits:

Siberian Ginseng has traditionally been used as a tonic, and has also been used for:
- Combats stress-related illness
- Fights fatigue; restores energy
- Enhances immunity and helps with chronic fatigue syndrome and - fibromyalgia
- Supports sexual function; may improve fertility in both sexes
- Eases symptoms of menopause
- May boost mental alertness in people with Alzheimer's disease

Echinacea is a traditional herbal remedy and well regarded for its ability to help support the immune system. Also has been used for:
- Colds and Influenza
- Viral and bacterial infections
- Skin complaints – many types such as acne and psoriasis
- Relief of pain and swelling
- Bites and scratches
- Allergies
- Tonsillitis, inflamed gums and mucus problems
- Burns and eczema (used externally)

Uncaria Tomentosa (cat's claw) is believed to have antioxidant properties and has also been traditionally used to benefit the immune system.

With such a concentration of goodness, and such an exclusive price tag, it’s no wonder that it’s not recommended for spreading.
