There’s nothing fishy about Friday

31st March 2008 Print
Hungry Brits will spend more than £7,500 on fish and chips over their lifetimes, according to new research commissioned by Young’s Seafood*. Yet sadly nine out of ten people won’t be eating any fish this Friday as the Great British tradition disappears.

The government recommends that everyone should eat two portions of fish a week but clearly the nation isn’t listening, as only 21% of people admit to reaching this target. So, in response to this worrying statistic, a new campaign is being launched by Young’s Seafood to put fish back on family dinner tables on Friday.

Helen Taylor, of Young’s Seafood who carried out the survey said: “We want to help families introduce more fish into their diet and increase their intake of Omega 3. We will be asking schools and canteens to add fish back to their menus as well as encouraging Brits to eat fish more regularly.”

The poll of 2,000 people also revealed that the nation’s favourite type of fishy meal is Ofish and chips, as it’s a meal the whole family enjoys.

Those in the North East love tucking into their Ofish and chips the most, with over 58% picking it as their preferred dish, but in Wales only 45% would choose Ofish and chips over plain fish fillets or fish fingers. In recognition of our great nation’s love for everything battered, Young’s has introduced it’s Chip Shop range.

The new Young’s Chip Shop Omega 3 range is made with a blend rich in sunflower oil so it’s now less than 5% saturated fat and is a natural source of Omega 3.
