Final Wacky Racer is star attraction at Junior Festival of Speed

With just three weeks to go, the excitement for the 2008 Festival of Speed (11-13 July) is building for Goodwood’s younger fan-base, as the Junior Festival of Speed takes shape.

Specifically designed for kids and families, the Junior Festival of Speed continues to grow in popularity. Its most famous feature is a cluster of life-size fully working cars from the popular cartoon, The Wacky Races©. Joining the fleet this year is the final Wacky Racer to be built by Goodwood - the Bullet Proof Bomb with the Ant Hill Mob.

The Bullet Proof Bomb completes the Wacky Racer set as the eleventh and the last full-size Wacky Racer built for Goodwood by local specialists Modeltec. Appearing at the Festival will be all seven of the Ant Hill Mob, led by Clyde with Danny, Kurby, Mac, Ring-a-Ding, Rug Bug Benny and Willy generally causing chaos!

The newest Wacky Racer will parade up the hillclimb throughout the weekend along with Penelope Pitstop’s Compact Pussycat; Peter Perfect’s Turbo Terrific; Dastardly & Muttley’s Mean Machine; the Gruesome Twosome’s Creepy Coupe; Professor Pat Pending’s Convert-A-Car; the Slag Brothers’ Boulder Mobile; the Army Surplus Special of Sargeant Blast and Private Meekley; the Crimson Haybaler driven by the Red Max; the Arkansas Chugabug with Luke and Blubber Bear and, last but not least, the Buzzwagon, driven by Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth.

In addition to the Wacky Races cars and characters, the Junior Festival of Speed features a range of activities for younger children. Situated close to the cricket pitch at the south side of the event, this children’s area will include other attractions such as driving simulators; Team Extreme with their radical skating and boarding; MAD - the UK’s maddest Mountainbike Stunt riders, who will be thrilling the crowds with their death-defying leaps, jumps, bunny hops and wheelies.

Graffiti Art – for the third year running RareKind will be back re-decorating a ‘vehicle’. They will also hold their popular workshops, giving kids the chance to paint their own mural on canvas. Competitions will be held, with the winners being given the opportunity to paint the Junior FOS wall.

New for 2008 is Popbang – run by artist Ian Cook who will be producing new auto drawings live in the Junior Festival of Speed area. Ian predominately uses radio control cars to paint with – they are in effect his electric paintbrushes. Using a variety of toy cars he creates images, running the car’s tyres through inks, paints and his favourite material food colouring! The selected imagery will relate to the theme of the 2008 event ‘Hawthorn to Hamilton – Britain’s Love Affair with World Motor Sport’.
