The Clissold Grocer opens in Muswell Hill
Just opened on Fortis Green in Muswell Hill, The Clissold Grocer is a great new delicatessen and grocery shop from the owners of The Clissold Arms gastro pub next door. A great addition to the local area, The Clissold Grocer will specialise in the highest quality produce and home made speciality food, stocking everything from seasonal organic fruit and vegetables, various artisan produce and freshly made dishes from The Clissold Arms.Open from eight in the morning, The Clissold Grocer sells take away Union Hand-Roasted coffee and teas along with breakfast pastries, home made granola and freshly squeezed fruit juices. Daily changing lunchtime choices include freshly made quiches and tarts, salads, pasta dishes, sausage rolls, terrines and patés, while more substantial dishes such as casseroles, roasted Label Anglaise chickens, duck confit, harrisa braised lamb shanks and coq au vin are available to pick up for dinner. Home made chutneys, preserves and cooking sauces complete The Clissold Grocer’s own offering, made by chef Jake Young and his team in the kitchen at The Clissold Arms.
Apart from its own produce, The Clissold Grocer stocks fine artisan foods and larder essentials sourced by Niven Garland, who was brought in to run the Grocer by owners Hugh O’Boyle and Caroline Jones. Niven, who was previously a sound engineer and music producer, has most recently opened Oaks Deli in Heartfordshire and prior to that, he was at Tom’s Deli on Westbourne Grove.
At the Grocer, Niven is stocking a great variety of mostly British produce including: seasonal organic fruit and vegetables, locally sourced as much as possible, juices from Luscombe, cooking chocolate from William Harcourt-Cooze, Galloway Lodge preserves, organic bread from Flour Power City, Cornish sea salt, Dorset Farms Organic Bacon and Ham, Fussel’s Rapeseed Oil and Fresh Eric’s delicious cakes. The selection of charcuterie comes from Brindisa and other suppliers, while the honey hails from artisan Italian producers Millefiori di Valetellina.
A small selection of wines is also available, including special edition rioja from Bodegas LAN in Spain and prosecco and wines from Rizzardi in Italy. These producers have been chosen by Caroline and Hugh who visited both vineyards, discovering that Rizzardi also produce a limited edition olive oil from handpicked olives growing by Lake Garda. Only 900 litres are produced annually and The Clissold Grocer is the exclusive London stockist.
The Clissold Grocer is the first shop from Jones and O’Boyle who also have a handful of hugely popular pubs and gastropubs in North London including The Three Crowns in Stoke Newington, The Spurstowe Arms in Hackney and The Talbot in De Beauvoir.
The Clissold Grocer is located at 115 Fortis Green, Muswell Hill, N2 9HR. Opening times are 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.
