More Th>n: Rocketting fuel prices

24th June 2008 Print
Following the recent rise of the price of diesel to £6 per gallon, coupled with speculation that UK fuel prices will continue to rise in the long term, MORE TH>N is predicting the knock on effect that rocketing prices could have on Britain's traditional motor insurance policy.

With pump prices on average around 40 per cent higher than 12 months ago and showing no sign of slowing, MORE TH>N is predicting a rise in the demand for greener, telematics-based insurance products. The shift from the traditional insurance product in this way could help Britain's 35 million motorists improve their fuel efficiency and reduce the overall cost of motoring, providing a much-needed respite for Britain's embattled motorists.

MORE TH>N's Product Director, Dowshan Humzah commented: "Many people simply cannot afford to be without their vehicles, but neither can they afford to sustain the cost of motoring. Instead, people will soon be looking for other ways to reduce costs, and the role insurance plays in this is important.

"At MORE TH>N we believe we can do more to help people reduce the cost of motoring, and we've recently launched MORE TH>N Green Wheels which aims to do just that. Primarily, Green Wheels helps motorists to adapt their driving style to reduce their carbon emissions and lower their impact on the environment, but fuel efficiency and running costs go hand in hand with eco-driving."

To bring Green Wheels to life, MORE TH>N has adopted new ‘Green Box' technology; a small device that links to the vehicle's Engine Management System and reads the motorist's driving style. The Green Box then sends that information wirelessly to MORE TH>N's new website, greenwheels.morethan.com where drivers can securely access their own personalised reports on their driving style to help improve their "eco-driving".

Users can get a deeper understanding of their driving by accessing the numerous graphs and summary sheets, which provide greater guidance of what they can do behind the wheel to improve their eco-driving rating and fuel efficiency.
