A real food stop-off for Londoners

The market, which remains the West End’s only open-air market from which Londoners can not only pick up gourmet treats for lunch, but also fresh produce to prepare at home in the evenings, is to continue trading until late December, with additional dates added to coincide with Covent Garden’s role as the hub and a founding partner of the first ever London Restaurant Festival (LRF).
The popularity of the market, introduced permanently following short summer runs in 2007 and 2008, is further evidence of the strength of Covent Garden’s food offering. Recent signings to the Market Building have included Tea Palace, Le Pain Quotidien and Ella’s Bakehouse, the quality cup-cake outlet founded by seminal 90’s supermodel Lorraine Pascale. A series of pioneering events at the Covent Garden Real Food Market, including the introduction of the UK’s first ever food bloggers stall run by the UK Food Bloggers Association (UKFBA), have earmarked the market as a weekly event not to be missed.
The market will remain a weekly fixture every Thursday on the Piazza until November 12th, when it will serve London’s foodie community every Thursday and Friday until the 18th December. From 8th- 11th October, the Covent Garden Real Food Market will celebrate Covent Garden’s role as the epicenter of the LRF. With four very special guest stalls hosted by some of London’s top chefs and suppliers, as well as the usual contingent of delicious, seasonal fare from artisan traders, visitors to the Covent Garden Real Food Market can expect to receive a dose of whatever is top of London’s food agenda that week.
Continuing to trade will be some of the UK’s finest food producers, including SJ Frederick & Sons’ free range Label Anglais chickens, Neal’s Yard Dairy cheeses, The Spore Boys’ famous mushroom sandwiches, The Garlic Farm, The Arabica Food & Spice Company, and for those with a sweet tooth, Crumbs & Doilies’ delectable cupcakes and Sugar Grain gluten-free cakes.
Bev Churchill of Covent Garden London comments, “The success of the Covent Garden Real Food market has been phenomenal and it seems the logical step to provide Londoners with a permanent seasonal market they can rely upon for their fresh produce.”
