Getting intimate: Crown’s colour trends for 2007

21st December 2006 Print
Crown. POWDER 1 This year Crown’s trends focus on one main theme – intimacy. Intimacy has many different meanings – it is when we are drawn in closer by an interesting surface or relief decoration, about handmade items and appreciating that these have imperfections.
Intimacy is the creation of a shell, layering of colours and textures that produce more personal and therefore intimate surroundings. This theme encompasses five distinct colour palettes.

Structured whites
White is the perfect background colour – there is nothing more striking than pure white. White is the point at which we create, it is a blank canvass or an unwritten page. The Structured Whites trend layers whites together, creating raised relief and texture, adding interest and depth to a room scheme.

Structured Whites colour palette:

Neutral Skins:

Skin is the most intimate thing you have and is the very substance of who you are. Neutral Skins is a very feminine trend but with a funky edge. It is about confidence, intuition and making your own mark on a space with a soft colour palette that mixes delicate pastels with modern neutrals.

Natural Surfaces:

As we edit down our possessions, those we keep tend to have either a personal meaning or a clear function. Taking its inspiration from crafts, pottery and textiles, Natural Surfaces includes anything that is man made, celebrating imperfection and using textures with a rough, unfinished feel. Making use of bold, dense colours such as oranges, reds and greens, Natural Surfaces makes a clear ‘nod’ towards the strong colours of the 1950s.

Natural Surfaces colour palette:

Slate Grey Kitchen & Bathroom emulsion, Tree House Kitchen & Bathroom emulsion, Toffee Apple Kitchen & Bathroom emulsion and Lemon Squash Kitchen & Bathroom emulsion, Crochet Fashion for Walls matt emulsion

Sparkling Greys:

Sparkling Greys takes its influence from both man-made and natural environments. The base of the palette captures the tones of more manufactured greys, while cool blues and earthy browns are layered to create both light and depth. The colours come together to tell a story and to provide a sense of belonging – a personal space that you have created yourself.

Colours on Black:

Colours on Black is a trend full of contrast and, as such, explores the deepest levels of intimacy. Its dark base is brought to life with flashes of vibrant colour capturing the playfulness of 70s glamour. By mixing moody tones with bright highlights it creates a conflict – the sharp bolts of colour make the darker hues even more.

Colours on Black colour palette:
