Structured whites for ultimate intimacy

Crown’s UK Colour Consultant, Judy Smith, explains how the new trend is used to add depth to any room: “You need to keep to a light and tonal palette throughout, but by layering different tones and textural relief, both on walls and in furnishings, you will build up a scheme that has a more modern and intimate feel.”
Crown’s suggested colour palette involves combining shades such as Milk White Easyclean Emulsion that has a subtle hint of cream with the slightly beige hue of Sail White Matt Emulsion. To add interest, you can team these with Pure Water Neutrals Emulsion that has a delicate aqua tint and White Suede Emulsion to introduce texture and depth.
Tones of white can be mixed with pure white in the same scheme, and the introduction of different textures will make your room even more striking. On the walls, suede or metallic finishes will emphasise delicate patterns and highlight changes of plane. You can further accentuate the look with different textures on your furnishings from crisp linens to heavy velvets, overblown knits to glossy acrylics. The layering of different materials and finishes will really strengthen the overall look and if you want to introduce a contrast, the most effective foil for white walls and ceilings is a near black shade on either the walls or glossy furniture and accessories.
Judy Smith also explains that opting for a visibly white room is a very considered decision and can provide the perfect backdrop for an eclectic mix of possessions: “White always has a simplicity and integrity, and by using it as all over colour in a room – on walls and ceilings, woodwork and key pieces of furniture - you can create a thoughtful shell for your personal style and possessions.”
