Fashion forward: What will the well-dressed window be wearing in 2007
Following her visit to the Heimtex exhibition in Frankfurt, the world’s largest international trade fair for textiles, Sarah Quilliam, head of product design at Hillarys, gives us her predictions for major trends in window dressing in 2007.“If you don’t want to go overboard with any of these trends and let’s face it, who can afford, or indeed want to start from scratch every time a new one comes along, then why not give a nod to the look with your window dressing?
“Loud and proud is the best way I can think of to describe the key look for 2007!” says Sarah. “There’s nothing wishy-washy about this year’s colour palette,” she adds. “We can kiss goodbye to pale pinks and lilacs and embrace an explosion of strong bold primary colours with red, blue and orange being particularly popular. Florals are out, except in very small doses, and understated contemporary glamour and touchy feely textures are very much in.
Orange appeal
Stimulating and vibrant, orange is said to help promote creativity and as many a good idea is said to start life as a ‘shower moment’, where better to use it than in the bathroom!
Glam rocks!
This year’s take on glamour is ‘grown-up’ - subtle and understated rather than full on eighties-style over the top luxe. Mixing old with new is key to the look with crystals, mirrored furniture, decorative scroll designs on fabrics and textiles and a general baroque influence adding to the feel. A patterned blind with crystal beading adds a shot of glamour to a traditional style bedroom.
Cosy up
For those who perhaps favour a more muted colour palette, interest and a bit of wow factor can be introduced through a mix of textures and patterns. We are going to see a lot of soft fabrics with decorative swirls and reflective detailing and animal prints during 2007 as well as bold patterns on wallpaper. Dare to take a walk on the wild side with a faux fur Roman blind.
