A unique finishing touch for your home

14th February 2007 Print
Furniture by Lee Sinclair If you are fed up with mass-produced furniture and artefacts for the home, and are seeking something truly individual to provide that ‘just so’ finishing touch, choose from literally hundreds of handcrafted treasures at this year’s Living Crafts at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire.

Held over four days from Thursday 10th through to Sunday 13th May 2007, Living Crafts is the perfect location from which to choose beautiful pieces of furniture, paintings, pottery, glassware, to mention just a few – or even commission designs of your own from one of the hundreds of craftsmen and women.

This year, returning to the show after a period of twenty-two years, modern furniture designer and maker Lee Sinclair will be exhibiting some truly contemporary and award-winning designs, including the ‘Convertable’. The Convertable is a patented, variable height, five-position table that converts from a small coffee table to a large occasional table; a games table; large dining table for up to six people and even an optional drawing board. Lovers of the plasma flat screen televisions might be interested in one of his latest designs, a cantilevered cabinet, which can be built to house any size screen and includes a remote-control operated TV lift, to cunningly keep the screen out of sight until it is required.

Lee Sinclair creates beautiful furniture for every room in the house and office using oak, walnut, maple, cherry, ash, sycamore, yew and many more including beautiful burrs and birds-eye maple. This company was selected as the number one furniture outlet in the country by The Independent newspaper’s 50 best places to buy furniture in 2005. His business was established way back in 1974, coincidentally the same year that saw the very first Living Crafts event.

Over the years Living Crafts has earned a justifiable reputation as the largest and most prestigious craft event in Europe. Whilst the sheer size of the event is quite simply breathtaking, even more important is the very high standards demanded by the show’s organisers, to ensure visitors can buy with confidence, knowing that many of the objects offered are built to last for generations.

There are many, many beautiful things for the home to choose from at Living Crafts including stunning pottery, sparkling glassware beautiful enough to grace any table, cutlery for very special occasions and all sorts of dishes and vases to complement both modern and traditional homes. There are mirrors and paintings, sculptures, lamps, ornaments and traditional toys, including hand-carved rocking horses. In fact, the choice is endless and the vast majority of items bought are certain to become family favourites and indeed heirlooms of the future.

There are workshops, talks and stunning demonstrations planned throughout the four days of the event for visitors to enjoy, as well as a wide variety of music and dancing. With plenty of room to sit down, relax and enjoy some delicious refreshments, Living Crafts 2007 is an event not to be missed.
