Mondial Assistance gives support to SURVIVE

25th June 2008 Print
Mondial Assistance, a leading provider of customer support services to the motor industry, has donated £4,000 towards the ongoing research and development work carried out by SURVIVE. The funding will go towards research into the safe operation of breakdown and recovery services across the UK.

Jack Stapleton, Network Development Manager for Mondial Assistance, who is a member of the SURVIVE working groups 1 & 2, commented “Supporting safe working practice at the roadside is of utmost importance to Mondial, and it is essential for the industry to work together to reduce the number of serious accidents and fatalities that occur each year on UK roads.”

SURVIVE was established in 1999 and exists to help improve the safety of all those who have to use the hard shoulder of a motorway or verge of a dual carriageway in an emergency situation. Some of the issues currently being addressed by SURVIVE include conspicuity at the roadside, protocols when working at the roadside as well as the collation and review of data regarding accidents and near misses.

The donation from Mondial Assistance will benefit greatly the work being carried out regarding the production of “Best Practice Guidelines for dealing with Breakdowns / Removals on Motorways and High Speed Dual Carriageways.” These Guidelines, which are being developed by Working Group 1 of SURVIVE, will sit alongside and complement the training manuals for those organisations working within the breakdown and recovery industry, as well as the Emergency Services and the Highways Agency Traffic Officer service.

Allan Mowatt, the Chairman of SURVIVE, said “SURVIVE was established to not only improve the safety of those who work on the road networks, but also that of the travelling public. Its ability to carry out this important work is entirely dependent upon the support and generosity of organisations such as Mondial Assistance. This donation clearly identifies Mondial as a responsible company which supports and contributes to best practice of roadside working.”
