Vintage glamour for your walls

The 16 wallpapers are evocative of sophisticated design found in mid 20th century ocean cruise liners, hedonistic hotels and haute couture. They pay homage to an age of sophistication and sweeping entrances with a liberal dose of Hollywood allure.
CARLYLE is an Art Deco archive document adapted to simulate embossed leather book bindings. This elemental version of the original uses counterpointing and metallic inks. The colours are cherry red and old rose metallic; bronze and dull gold or gunmetal and silver. As if from a Noel Coward theatre set comes BELGRAVIA, oozing sophistication with an elegant coiled ribbon design on a leather grain background. In silver on pale grey; duck egg and lime on oyster; silver on light shagreen; or gold, silver and black on buffalo.
Straight from a 1930s portmanteau comes CROCODILE, an original Coles Studio design simulating buffed crocodile skin in metallic ash; light sage; gunmetal or sand.
An archive document from the 1950s, FAIRMOUNT adds depth and a 3-dimensional look simulating the 18th century filigree inlaid tortoiseshell veneers of André-Charles Boule. Colourways are gold on tortoiseshell; gold on bone; French grey and silver on stone or pale stone on tallow.
TORTOISESHELL is an original Coles Studio design in deep red with black; iridescent silver, gold and taupe reminiscent of sugar glass or natural shades of brown. The polished sheen effect bounces light around the room.
CHEVRON is a distillation of the essential Art Deco chevrons. The bas-relief effect creates a strong sense of texture in gold on tortoiseshell; old white on bone or broken white on parchment.
From a 1950s archive document, the floral fan shape of DOLLY has been adapted to give a 3-dimensional quality. Colourways are dark brown, taupe and silver; stone, grey and white or cerise, black and white.
Luscious FIG has its origins in a 1950s design fragment found in the archive. Now with the addition of shadow this graphic design is in neutrals and sage; taupe, silver and black on dove; chestnut and white on gold; pink, antique bronze and black on fuchsia or taupe and white on palest blue. Karen Beauchamp, Coles Creative Director, admired the discipline of the original drawing but has altered the structure allowing the figs to climb seductively up the wall.
PALM COURT is an archive design from the 1920s. The trellis is now diagonal and simplified with olive leaves and stylised flowers. Colours are washed bamboo and dove on stone; bleach white and burnt brown on grey; crimson and gold on terracotta or sienna and bone on lime.
Inspired by Art Deco book binding and lacquer work, MOLINO features a series of concentric half circles on a glitter dusted ground. Colours are white on shell pink; silver and taupe on parchment or pewter and jet on charcoal.
The Collection features two designs in different scales to play with and coordinate. SUTHERLAND LARGE SWIRL is taken from a small 1950s freehand drawing in the archive now adapted and streamlined with tailored ends on the swirls. Influenced by Art Deco and 1940s interior decoration the swirls are in silver and black on fine black and grey stripes; gold and black on red tortoiseshell; ivory and straw on stone or dark taupe and white on limewash. SUTHERLAND SMALL SWIRL is a petite version in the same colours with 3 swirls to each width.
HAMILTON TRELLIS is a multi-lined trellis typical of the period and is available in two sizes. Colours are gold on tortoiseshell; silver on grey; white on stone or white on taupe. HAMILTON SMALL TRELLIS is the scaled down version and both work together.
Historically Coles are known for their classic stripes and for 2008 there is a twist. GLITTER BUG stripe is in ivory glitter and taupe; purple glitter and bronze or letterbox red glitter and black. FINE STRIPE is as dashing as a Savile Row silk in gold and black; taupe and silver; white and parchment or grey and black.
