Make a green style statement in your home with this trendy floor hide designed by Scottish eco-designer Susiemaroon and available from Pure Design. All the hides have a natural dark brown finish and are finished with rich gold, green and orange embroidery.

These luxurious leather floor hides are made from hides otherwise destined for landfill. Each hide is carefully prepared using a non-toxic vegetable tanning process, and then digitally embroidered with Susie’s motifs by a Scottish cottage industry on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The hides are a part of Susiemaroons’ new ‘Assemble’ range. These exclusive items are all hand-made to order and available through Pure Design www.puredesigncompany.co.uk.

The Assemble range includes matching embroidered cushions in both leather and organic calico cotton and placemats.

Susiemaroon is an award winning independent eco-label based in Scotland’s Capital City, Edinburgh. Founded in 2005 by artist and designer Susie Brown the label produces contemporary home and fashion accessories for people who love the earth as much as they love design. The latest collection, Assemble, investigates how Susie’s designs are developed and produced, including key sketches in the design development, with each motif representing a significant stage in the creative procedure.

About Vegetable Tanning

Vegetable tannin (the ingredient used in vegetable tanning process) is extracted from natural plant materials to convert rawhide into leather. Its use eliminates the need for heavy metals, such as chromium, commonly used in the tanning process. Vegetable tanning is one of the oldest methods of tanning, and takes hours and sometimes days longer than tanning with the use of heavy metals. This is why some commercial suppliers choose speed over environmental considerations (‘time is money’). By using vegetable tanned leather, Susiemaroon has invested time and money in a greener solution.
