A very special piece of furniture

27th January 2009 Print
Choosing the right furniture for a new home is never easy. Furniture packs go a long way to making things easier and can provide the ideal furnishing solution. But if you want your property to look a little bit different, need a special piece of furniture or have special requirements, bespoke furniture is probably the answer.

“If you’re searching for a specific look or have a corner of your house that needs a special item of furniture,” says Lesley Watt, Director of Obelisk Interiors, “a bespoke piece is often the answer.”

Furniture for storage and display such as cabinets, wall units and wardrobes are usually the most popular bespoke items, particularly as these units can be made to measure and fit into any corner. A tailor made piece can often be the only answer for an awkward corner – for example, an under stair cupboard – or non-standard measurements. This is often the case with new build homes where the bathrooms tend to have wall mounted basins – finding a unit to fit exactly under the basin can be difficult and this is where a bespoke cupboard comes in.

As well as having the exact measurements for your requirements, a bespoke item also means you can choose the exact style and colour for your piece. Finishes can be matched to your existing furnishings or be made in a contrasting shade or colour. Wood can be stained in a variety of wood shades or tinted in a colour such as lavendar, pale green or shell blue.

As Lesley points out, a bespoke piece means you can create a special and often unique item as well as add something extra to your home. And the good news is that bespoke furniture need not be expensive. “Obviously, you’re looking at a higher budget than a basic furniture pack,” explains Lesley, “but bespoke pieces aren’t as expensive as people think. And the extra expense is well worth it when you consider that you’re buying a one-off item of furniture.”

Obelisk Interiors provides bespoke furniture packages and also offer single bespoke pieces to fit any specification. For more information on how Obelisk Interiors can help you find that special piece of furniture, visit obeliskinteriors.eu
