Crown jewels for your home

A brief was given to second year textile and fashion students at the RCA to create a wall stencil for use in the home as a DIY ‘interior design’ tool - to be painted directly onto walls within the home using Crown Paint. From stencils fit for the fashionista through to conceptual wall art - the results were eclectic, inspired and stunning.
From this pool of unique designs, Crown selected the winning design ‘Image Furniture’ by Kyu Seon Lee, which was chosen for its chic style and unique function. The design of a chandelier created out of household objects and trinkets is full of humour. Sleek, stylish and perfect for the kitchen or living room, Kyu’s stencil is to be played with and adapted. Keys, corkscrews and glasses can be hung over the silhouette on the wall, acting as a fun frame for everyday objects. This stencil demands interaction and attention; it is part of the home and not just accessory for it.
“I designed a stencil which takes furnishing objects as flat images. The reason I chose to do this is because some houses do not have enough space or height to accommodate something as opulent as a chandelier, but with this stencil it is easy to integrate this object into your home” says Kyu. “In addition, I wanted to give a little practical function and humour to my design, by encouraging real objects to be incorporated into the stencil.”
Wendy Dagworthy, Head of Fashion and Textiles at the RCA comments;
“The students have really enjoyed the challenge from Crown and have produced some exceptional work. It is fantastic to give them the opportunity of working with such a fantastic brand and with such a creative brief.”
The Crown Jewels stencil has been produced by the Stencil Library and is now available to order from Stencil-library.com.
The stencil retails at £90.00. The website also has a page dedicated to helpful hints and tips for applying stencils.
