Keeping the ‘World Cup of Motorsport’ on track

7th August 2008 Print
The A1GP series in action Delivered on Time (D.O.T) was the official logistics partner for A1GP World Cup of Motorsport 2007/08. It was responsible for moving every car, spare part and other item of related equipment to and from each of the 10 rounds held on five continents from September 2007 to May 2008. Not delivering to schedule would have meant the cancellation of a race – an unimaginable scenario.

The key statistics are:

Number of racing cars shipped per race, inc. spare vehicles - 27
Total weight of freight moved per meeting – 230,000 kgs
Number of air miles covered during the season – c.100,000
Average number of man hours on site per event – 480
Global coverage – 10 events, 9 countries, 5 continents

As well as the 27 cars and spare parts, D.O.T shipped the team equipment, track signage, hospitality requirements, marketing materials, TV equipment, medical car and Ferrari 599 GTB safety cars – everything in fact required to stage the races in whatever country they were run.

In addition to the races, in April the A1GP scene had to be recreated in the heart of London’s West End, where the 22 competing nations were brought together in the confines of Lower Regent Street as a promotion for the final round at Brands Hatch on May 2-4.

In-house Carnet facility

Such global travel requires a large range of ATA Carnets, all of which were produced in-house by the company’s own document experts, who organise up to 350 Carnets per annum all told and whose London office can readily support some £18 million worth of documents simultaneously.

Said D.O.T’s Managing Director Paul Fowler, “We are delighted to have been working for A1GP and proud of the job we did for the season just ended – the second year of our relationship. It will be very exciting to see how things develop now we have the new A1GP ‘Powered by Ferrari’ car.”
