Classic Fire Engine stars at BCA
A 1950s Fire Engine was one of the stars of the show in the recent ‘Classics from BCA’ sale held late last month at the Blackbushe auction centre. The superbly appointed 1955 Dennis Fire Engine was formerly operated by Cornwall County Fire Brigade and was stationed at Mevagissey until the mid-1970s. Properly described as an F8 Water Tender, it was built by the Dennis Works in Guildford and was sold by BCA in full working order. Equipment included the original ladders, light portable Coventry Climax pump and hoses and a substantial amount of original, mainly brass, fittings and small gear, including the all-important bell. The Tender sold to a collector for £6,050 following some very competitive bidding.
‘Classics from BCA’ Manager Robin Lawton commented “The Dennis Fire Engine was certainly the largest ‘classic’ entered for this sale and we were delighted that it sold to a collector who will maintain it into the future. There is a ready market for such interesting and unusual vehicles, despite the current economic conditions.”
The next ‘Classics from BCA’ sale takes place at the Blackbushe auction centre - located on the A30 between Camberley and Basingstoke – on Tuesday 7th October commencing at 12 Noon.
