Top five favourite cars with small fleets
Comparecontracthire.com has revealed the top five most popular cars with small fleets that have visited its site and bought a car over the past two months. Not surprisingly the lack of a structured fleet policy means companies have a free choice and tend to opt for a mix of the three Ps, Prestige, Practicality, and Price when sourcing a car for themselves or their staff.
By far the most popular brand with small fleets is Audi, representing more orders received on Comparecontracthire.com than any other. Most popular is the A4 2.0D which offers four door practicality and some brand equity with the neighbours.
Second is BMW and its 320D. Low emissions and brand credibility are the main reasons for the car’s success.
Mazda’s 6 makes a surprising appearance at number three. With the same dynamics package as the Mondeo and excellent equipment levels the Mazda is a sensible alternative to more mainstream brands.
Not surprisingly, VW’s Golf comes in at number four. The range is so large now that the car meets the needs of the complete company car driver hierarchy from a young sales executive to a successful sales manager.
Volvo’s V50 is at number five and the third premium car maker in the table. Since the addition of its R-DESIGN trim level and its realigned equipment and pricing, the V50 has seen a radical increase in sales across the fleet sector.
All five cars have something in common in that the 2.0 litre diesel option is the most popular with the small fleet community. Despite the high price differential between the two fuels, the improved fuel consumption of diesel seems to be a small fleet favourite ahead of petrol.

“SMEs obviously want something that gives them status, but the popularity of diesel shows that they obviously have costs in mind when choosing a company car,” said Managing Director Robert Wastell.
