Insurance.co.uk: Motor Industry Service and Repair Code
Welcoming the new Motor Industry Service and Repair Code, Steve Grainger, head of insurance.co.uk, said: “Our research shows there is a crisis of confidence in the motor repairs industry and a recognised code is long needed to offer reassurance to car owners.Research findings from insurance.co.uk this week revealed that half of British motorists believe they have been ‘scammed' by a rogue mechanic, costing the nation a whopping £8 billion. The research also highlights the primary concerns of car owners when visiting a tradesman;
1 52 per cent worry they'll be overcharged
2 48 per cent think the mechanic will do more work then is necessary
3 34 per cent fear their lack of knowledge about cars will be exploited
4 28 per cent don't trust the quality of the repair work
Steve continues: "Until the Code receives full OFT approval, consumers will need to remain vigilant and ensure they use reputable tradesmen - ideally recommended by a friend, trade body or quality approved network. To help drivers, insurance.co.uk is offering those who use the site to compare car insurance policies, free membership to the National Service Network (NSN). NSN manage a national network of garages who meet strict quality standards."
