Silverstone gives green light to dream race day Ever dreamt of becoming a racing driver? Well now’s the chance to earn your stripes with Silverstone’s unique new Race Licence Day, taking you from zero to hero in just one day guided by some of the UK’s top driving instructors.

This is the ultimate driving experience where you get the chance to bag a race licence and the opportunity to compete for the very first time in a single-seater race on the same day.”

The “Race Day” experience sees participants don the L-plate’s once again, and undergo intensive driver tuition and tests, to earn a National B Competition Licence approved by the sports governing body, the MSA (Motor Sports Association).

Silverstone is home to the British Grand Prix and also home to one of the country's leading Association of Racing Drivers Schools (ARDS) so attendees will be well prepared for their first competitive outing.

During the action-packed day, attendees will undergo both academic and practical assessments to ensure their suitability to race safely on circuits up and down the country.

From learning track techniques, to skid control and one-to-one coaching in a Lotus Exige and Caterham Seven, the unique Silverstone Race Day ends for all successful participants, and new MSA Competition Race Licence holders, with their maiden race.

After free-practice in the 140bhp open-wheel Formula Silverstone racing cars, you will be required to set your fastest qualifying lap to determine your position on the grid for your maiden race.

Boasting a 0-60mph time of just five seconds, newly qualified National B Competition Licence holders will then line up on Silverstone’s Stowe Circuit. Used by Formula 1 teams for general shakedown testing, the 0.795 mile track will provide an exhilarating end to the day.

“We’re taking the drive experience up a level,” says Chris Ward, Chief Driving Instructor at Silverstone. “This is a unique day of learning and earning the right to pull on the helmet and gloves for your first ever competitive race. One thing is for sure….you’ll be hooked on motorsport afterwards.”

The cost of a place on the race day experience is £599 plus VAT per person. Visit silverstone.co.uk for more information.
