Barratt gets the go-ahead in Cippenham

30th August 2007 Print
Barratt has received detailed planning consent to create 76 new homes in Cippenham, Berkshire and construction has now started. This is the first phase in Barratt’s plans to build 300 new homes and marks the final stage of development of land formerly owned by Eton College.

The 76 units will comprise one-bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, with 37 of the homes allocated for affordable housing.

As part of the planning agreement, Barratt will upgrade the existing sports pitches on the development and create new changing facilities. 28 acres of the land will be returned to Slough Borough Council under a 99-year lease for use as recreational ground.

Gary Ennis, Barratt’s regional managing director comments: “It’s good to be back in Cippenham after a five year absence. There is a great need for new homes in the area and we hope that our new development will go some way towards meeting the local demands for housing.”

Construction work will shortly begin and, in keeping with its policy of creating homes that minimise the impact on the environment, Barratt is investigating alternative forms of renewable energy for the development, including wind turbines and generators.
Barratt plans to launch the development in October, when the first show homes will open.
