Barratt acquires prime site in village of Compton

3rd July 2008 Print
Barratt Thames Valley has acquired a prime site in Compton, a charming village surrounded by beautiful West Berkshire countryside, where it will build a collection of 33 new homes.

The development, in the attractive High Street, will offer 23 private three and four-bedroom houses and 10 affordable homes, all of which will meet level three of the Government's Code for Sustainable Homes; a benchmark for the design of new homes to ensure they include eco-friendly elements. Criteria examined under the Code ranges from energy and CO2 emissions, materials, pollution, waste and water to ecology and health and wellbeing.

Barratt is currently considering a variety of options for the scheme, including the provision of sheds for cycle storage, water butts and home composters for every house, plus solar hot water and photovoltaic energy generation. Water monitoring will take place throughout the build programme as part of the Code Three requirement.

The housebuilder will also be contributing funds to the library and educational facilities in Compton as part of the planning agreement.

Michael O'Leary, managing director of Barratt Thames Valley, says: "These new homes will include some great eco-friendly initiatives. Coupled with the excellent location we are expecting good interest. We hope to have completed the development in around 12 months. I recommend anyone interested in securing a home at this superb address to register their interest with us as soon as possible."

Compton is superbly located off the A34, around nine miles north of the M4 (J 13), with Oxford to the north and Newbury to the south. The new homes will be ideal for families searching for a good school for their children. The village has a primary school, and for older children there is the highly regarded Downley School; this has received three outstanding inspections in a row and can claim Arsenal/England footballer Theo Walcott amongst its alumnae.
