The perfect retirement home at Chestnut Grange

The perfect retirement home at Chestnut Grange Downsizing to a smaller home can be a daunting prospect for retired people. However, thanks to her daughter, Dorothy Turner discovered the perfect new property at The Mews at Chestnut Grange, a David Wilson Retirement Homes development in Wokingham.

Dorothy, who previously lived in a large house in Woodley, had been staying with her daughter’s family in Bramley, halfway between Reading and Basingstoke.

“Mum had medical problems and, as she doesn’t drive, it was easier for her to stay with us so that I could get her to appointments at the hospital,” explained Julie Francis, a school teacher.
“She ended up living with us for two and a half years and couldn’t face the thought of returning to a house with a large garden. We discussed the idea of sheltered accommodation and I noticed a development on the internet,” Julie continued.

“We set out to take a look and we really liked what we saw and Mum decided to settle there, but I couldn’t move her things until my school broke up for the holidays. However, the David Wilson team was really helpful and very flexible about the moving date.”

Mrs Turner took advantage of the developer’s Home Exchange Scheme, which made her move completely trouble free.

“The home exchange deal was perfect as it saved Mum the worry of finding a buyer for her existing home in Woodley,” Julie continued. “Her new house at Chestnut Grange is a lovely two-bedroom cottage, which comes with a lounge, downstairs cloakroom and fully fitted kitchen.

“Mum hasn’t been at the development long, but she’s settling in well,” Julie added. “It will be nice for her to have a home of her own again and she can walk to the shops. The amenities include a Careline service, so we know she can get help quickly, and we’re only half an hour away if she needs us.”

The Mews at Chestnut Grange is a gated development with just four cottages remaining. In addition to a 24-hour Careline service, amenities include a house manager, two residents’ lounges, CCTV, a guest suite and communal gardens.

Set in Harding Place off Glebelands Road, the development is a short walk from the picturesque town centre of Wokingham. Local services include shops like Waitrose and Marks & Spencer, a post office and an outdoor market. The town enjoys easy access to the M4 and the M3 motorways.
