Exceptional 1930’s Art Deco home

Woodside - front elevation Situated on Bath’s Southern slopes overlooking the city, the Art Deco property truly stands out as one of a kind. Originally designed circa 1930s and combining features true to the period while mixed with a selection of modern hi tech specifications, it is a rare find.

Located in idyllic setting on the prestigious North Road, the property itself is set within an old quarry giving it a level of privacy and enclosure which is quite unique within the City. Restored back to its original splendour, the renovations have ensured that the essence and opulence of Art Deco is maintained whilst improving the internal space for luxurious modern living.

According to Mike Rosser, the current owner of the property and owner of New Millennium Construction, “I carried out a lot of research prior to building to ensure all details are as authentic as possible. For example, I mimicked some of the design detail from the Getty yacht and imported sheets of marble straight from Italy. Perfect for entertainers and art collectors, the house is an art deco lovers dream in just about the most private surroundings.”

Those that are smitten with Art Deco homes tend to fall fast and hard, tempted by their individuality, sensuous curves and liking for the use of steel, concrete and glass. Art Deco began in Europe, particularly Paris, in the early years of the 20th century, but didn't really take hold until after World War I. It reigned until the outbreak of World War II and its current hot status shows no signs of abating.

The curved staircase within the property is a spectacular feature as you walk into the hall. It stands within a curved glass wall with views over the garden and is finished with a highly polished chrome handrail, complete with the original glass lantern that sits on the newel post. The detailed marble throughout the property is a work of art in itself.

Christine Penny, Sales Director of Hamptons International said, “Apart from being Art Deco, one of the unique features about Woodside is that all the accommodation is on two floors only, unlike the five storey town houses you usually find in Bath. Even on a dull day, Woodside has a good feel of light and space with the main reception room the best feature of them all.”

Woodside House sits in mature gardens on an elevated site on the south side of the city. It is a secure property, being approached through electrically operated gates. The landscaped gardens have been dressed with discreet outside lighting, so the property looks as impressive at night as it does during the day. Behind the property, sweeping garden steps lead up to a small enclosed paddock which has further potential for recreational use.
