Linden launches shared equity scheme in Bristol

Under the scheme, buyers can effectively own 100% of their new home for only 75%* of the price. Customers who would normally be unable to meet the requirements of a mortgage lender to borrow the entire amount of a property can opt instead to borrow three-quarters of the capital cost of the property while Linden owns the amount outstanding, in this case 25% of the value.
Customers then have the opportunity to buy the remaining equity back, up to a maximum of 10 years. Unlike many other shared equity schemes, there is no rent to pay on the 25% share Linden owns, although if the property is sold before the amount is paid off Linden takes its percentage back. Such schemes have allowed buyers throughout the UK to get their feet on the first rung of the ladder, where it would have been otherwise impossible.
