Home is where the eating-out is

8th December 2008 Print
Home is where the eating-out is The desire amongst Brits to eat-out doesn’t seem to have been affected by the economic slowdown according to recent research by Crest Nicholson*, the housebuilders behind many outstanding developments across the South West including Dockside at Portishead and ICON in Street. Over half of people surveyed agreed that eating-out is still an essential part of their lifestyle and are continuing to dine out at least once every fortnight.

The research by Crest Nicholson was carried out to coincide with National Eating-out Week (23 – 29 November) and designed to gauge an understanding of British eating-out habits and how this affects the location of their home. With 84% of people aspiring to live within walking distance of a good restaurant and 60% admitting that the location of their property was influenced by having good restaurants nearby, the survey has highlighted how important living within close proximity to a good restaurant is for the British public.

Gina Argent, Crest Nicholson’s sales manager for Dockside and ICON, comments: “It seems that the traditional activity of dining-out remains ever popular despite consumers tightening their purse strings in the current economic climate. At Crest Nicholson, we continue to recognise the importance of having good quality restaurants located closely to developments and how accessibility to these is favoured by the British public. Eating-out will remain an integral part of our cultural behaviour and we therefore aim to locate our developments to reflect this.”

At Dockside, restaurant-goers are extremely well catered for with the recent opening of Jack’s Brasserie, Bar Chocolat and the Lockhouse Bar and Restaurant as well as Bottelinos due to open next year.

Dockside is an attractive collection of two bedroom apartments and three/four-bedroom and four/five-bedroom town houses located in the vibrant surroundings of Port Marine. All homes at the development have been carefully designed in order to maximise light and space, and feature a contemporary layouts that are in tune with modern living.

Prices at Dockside start from £119,962 for a two bedroom apartment bought under the EasyBuy scheme, to £245,000 for a four bedroom townhouse.

Foodies living in Street also have a great selection of restaurants to choose from including Cibos Italian Restaurant and the Sharpham Park Restaurant at nearby Charlton House Hotel in Shepton Mallet

The first phase of the ICON development consists of 108 one, two, three and four-bedroom homes, which have been designed to create a sustainable community by reducing the consumption of energy and water whilst providing contemporary living spaces.
