Sealed success for lengendary Ferrari-related plates

Two golden Ferrari-related registrations have cooked up a storm of interest in the first DVLA Personalised Registrations sealed bid auction.

250 SWB and 250 TDF - each with a reserve of £1,200 – and regarded as possibly the Holy Grail of private registrations by some Ferrari aficionados, will be sold to the highest bidder when the sale closes at 2pm on Friday, October 31.

Putting the plates’ value into perspective, celebrity car-nut Chris Evans paid a record £5.6 million for a classic 1961 250 GT SWB once owned by Hollywood legend, James Coburn, during the summer.

As for the 250 TDF, it is the only registration that truly reflects Ferraris’ formidable era during the 1950s and 1960s when the 250-generation of models dominated the five-day 3345-mile Tour de France race. Indeed, the 250 GT Tour de France is believe to be one of the rarest models in existence.

Damian Lawson, marketing manager for DVLA Personalised Registrations, said: “These are two classic registrations for two classic Ferraris, there’s no doubt about that. It would be terrific to see them go to the right home.”
