Peak Drivers win Michelin Award at MPG Marathon
The economy driving team of James Sutherland and Richard Hill of Derbyshire based Peak Performance driving a petrol engine Toyota Aygo, very nearly scored a trio of wins in the MPG Marathon, held earlier this month, missing out on the top spot by a mere 2mpg on the winning Toyota Yaris. However, the Derbyshire pair did secure the prestigious Michelin Award for delivering the lowest cost per mile of all the entries. The demanding 400 mile economy run started in Bristol and took competitors through Wales to Macclesfield and back to Bristol over a two day period. “We were disappointed not to win for the third time in a row,” said James Sutherland, “but we did beat our miles per gallon figure of last year and only lost out by 2mpg this year to a diesel engined car considered by most experts as more economical than a petrol engine”. The team’s overall mpg of 82.39 was almost a third better than the manufacturer’s published fuel consumption figure.
