Summer heat? The wood needs a treat

Summer heat? The wood needs a treat It’s common knowledge that preventative action makes sense, avoiding the cost of replacing expensive garden furniture and fixtures, but people are frequently put off by the bewildering range of exterior wood care products and concerns over their safety and environmental impact, not to mention the prospect of spending days out in the garden painstakingly creosoting acres of woodwork.

Taking the view that protection is better than replacement, Wood-Finishes-Direct.com is introducing new ranges of exterior wood finishes, wood stains and treatments to help restore, protect and extend the lives of garden furniture, decking, sheds and fences.

With new exterior treatments and stains, together with extremely affordable tools and equipment, garden woodwork can be rapidly treated in a wide range of refreshing, vibrant colours and shades, transforming the look of grey, tired looking sheds, fence panels and garden furniture.

Managing director of Wood-Finishes-Direct.com, Laurence Mann, advises on some top selling products that stand up to the job: “No longer limited to the traditional brown that creosote used to offer, new, safer, more environmentally friendly exterior wood stains such as Osmo Wood Stain Protector have emerged, offering a variety of colour choices that include Fir Green, Stone Pine and Rosewood.”

For those who have large areas to stain, Laurence offers another solution: “One of the quickest ways to stain your garden shed and fence is with a simple hand operated spray system. These effortless, hand operated pumps don’t require a compressor or electricity to build up air pressure, they’re light, they’re portable and, at £15, extremely reasonable. With one of these handy little tools, whole fences and sheds can be coated and treated in minutes rather than hours.”

It needn’t just be the old wood in the garden that needs looking after. Although the majority of new garden furniture, sheds, fences and decking come pre-treated, it doesn’t take long for the weather to start taking its toll. During summer, the ultra violet rays of the sun can bleach wood stains and strip away the natural oils, leaving them jaded, greying and vulnerable to wind and rain.

By using the right treatments with the right tools, decking, sheds, fences and garden furniture can be quickly and easily treated, giving them new life and enjoyment for years to come.

As with any product, users should always apply to a test area first as different wood types and ages will greatly influence the overall finish.
