Barefoot garden paving the way towards wellbeing

Gardens are set to put a new spring in the step across Britain with the launch of Acupath – a foot massaging pathway developed by luxury flooring brand Barefoot.

The reflexology-style concept was warmly received at Barefoot’s ‘Lose The Shoes’ garden at RHS Tatton, which secured a prestigious silver award from the RHS.

Lose The Shoes featured Barefoot’s Acupath foot massaging pebble walkway, which was surrounded by Barefoot Hot Rocks marble carpet.

These surfaces aim to encourage people to lose their shoes and walk barefoot along pathways, helping to increase circulation and stimulate body and mind.

Television viewers saw acclaimed gardening expert and broadcaster Carol Klein showcased the garden on BBC’s Gardeners’ World, where she spoke of her admiration for its ability to create both a sense of relaxation and an energising environment.

The team from the BBC also featured the garden – which took its inspiration from Feng Shui to reward and energise the senses - in its ‘Inspirational Ideas From The Show’ web review, for its use of resin-bound paving.

The website said: “This is a technique that uses natural or recycled materials coated with clear resin that binds it together.

“For example, you can have a path that looks like gravel but you don’t have the problem of loose stones or weeds.

“It is permeable, easy to lay, comes in a wide range of colours and textures and feels lovely and smooth, almost soft, underfoot. You can also use it indoors – sounds like a winner.”

Designed by Bernie Quinn – who made her design debut at the event, Lose The Shoes was also featured in the review guide for its inspirational planting to develop a warm feel in colder climes.
