City living – in a village location

Redrow Homes, currently building brand new apartments at Cooper Court in Hazel Grove, are seeing an influx of young professionals who adore being at the centre of the action in Manchester - or even Stockport just three miles away - during their working day, but also desire a more calming environment to come home to.
Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes, explains: “Hazel Grove is just under half an hour by train from Manchester city centre so it’s perfect for commuters – yet not everyone wants to stay there when their work is done. That’s what makes Cooper Court so appealing; there’s a reservoir nearby and the village is the ideal antidote to the pressures of working in the city.
“We are also experiencing interest from down sizers, who naturally require a low maintenance home to fit in with their new lifestyle, but one that’s close to all the amenities they require – Hazel Grove fits the bill perfectly.”
Redrow’s new venture will feature 98 two and three-bedroom mews and three-bedroom town houses and two-bedroom apartments. The development is located off Cooper Street in the village and is close to the A6 road and local hospital.
The marketing suite is now open with the first properties due to be build complete soon so people can start moving in.
Patsy continues: “Another major plus of buying here is the fact all the homes are new. It’s well known that buying new over an older property can save money, but new homes are also lots more efficient in other areas too.”
According to the NHMB (New Homes Marketing Board), upgrading an old home to the same standards as a newly built pristine one can cost well over £20,000 – including fitting a new kitchen, bathroom, replacing wiring and guttering among other things.
The average new home, says the NHMB, is also four times more energy efficient compared to an older one – and can feature excellent insulation and various energy saving devices.
A typical Avon apartment at Cooper Court boasts an open plan living/kitchen/dining area, with two bedrooms – one with an en-suite shower room - and the main bathroom. Prices start from £160,000 and also include a single car parking space – another plus which, in the city centre, can sometimes cost an extra £10-£15,000 on top of the purchase price.
Travel connections from Hazel Grove are excellent with easy access to the A6, which links to the M1 and M6 motorways, leading to London, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Manchester and beyond. There is also a local railway station which will take people straight into Manchester Piccadilly in 30 minutes.
