Wall to wall fun in Openshaw

Paul Brickles, of Redrow Homes (North West) – preferred developer for Openshaw West within the New East Manchester regeneration project – said: “More than just a housebuilder, Redrow likes to get involved with and support the communities in which it builds; and taking part in the party in the park enabled us to do just that.
“The fantastic weather meant the marquee was largely redundant on the day but this certainly couldn’t be said of our climbing wall. It was a hugely popular attraction and we were delighted to see so many smiling faces.”
Over a thousand east Manchester residents enjoyed an afternoon at the 'seaside' in the glorious sunshine during the second of the east Manchester party in the parks.
The event, 'Beacons by the Beach', organised by east Manchester New Deal for Communities and Manchester Leisure, had a beach theme with donkey rides, deck chairs, a Punch and Judy show, a fun fair, jazz band and even special Beacons sticks of rock.
Various agencies, such as age concern and stop smoking service were also on hand to offer information and guidance on clubs and societies.
Sean McGonigle, east Manchester's NDC Co-ordinator said: “We are very grateful to Redrow for so generously supporting this year's event.
“It’s great to see companies like Redrow, who play such a vital role in the regeneration of the area, get involved in community events. The climbing wall was a lot of fun and I'm sure their contribution was appreciated by all who attended on Sunday afternoon.”
Redrow is working closely with New East Manchester – an urban regeneration partnership between Manchester City Council, English Partnerships and the North West Development Agency – to develop a masterplan for neighbourhood improvements to Openshaw West and will shortly be consulting with residents regarding those plans.
The area consists of approximately 89 hectares of mixed use land and is currently home to more than 1,500 residents.
Paul Brickles adds: “Working with our partners, we aim to provide a wide mix of new housing, offering choice and quality for new and existing families, with services and amenities within easy access.”
