A royal opening for Unity Quarter in Salford

He also serves as a commissioner of the Historic Building and Monuments Commission for England and is President of the Society of the Architect-Artists.
The Duke has expressed a keen interest in community regeneration and so it is appropriate that he opened ‘Unity Quarter’. This is the first phase of a housing-led regeneration project for the Charlestown and Lower Kersal areas that will deliver up to 2,500 new homes and community facilities over the next ten years.
The development comprises of 184 properties built by Miller Homes in a joint venture with Miller Regeneration and Inspired Developments. The development is the result of a partnership with Salford City Council, Charlestown and Lower Kersal New Deal for Communities [NDC] and Contour Housing Group.
The contemporary element of the development has been designed by the renowned architects Stephenson Bell, responsible for Radisson Edwardian Hotel created from the former Free Trade Hall and the Convention Centre at City Central, formerly G-Mex, and the recent revamp of Piccadilly Plaza.
The Duke arrived at 1.15pm and met the team from Miller Homes North West and Miller Homes Regeneration. His tour of the showhomes included the opportunity to meet some members of the NDC team, of Contour Housing as well as one of the first residents, Mr Ian Thompson, who is eagerly awaiting the moving dates.
After the tour of the show homes, The Duke helped bury a time capsule, prepared by the children of Albion High School, which contains items to reflect life in Salford in the 21st century. He met the children involved in the project, as well as the head teacher, Mr. Steve Aveyard. The final duty was to plant tree to commemorate the visit.
Miller Homes’ “Unity Quarter” development is located on Oaklands Road, Lower Kersal M7 3QP and offers a choice of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom family homes. Prices start at £89,995. The show homes and marketing suite are now open every day from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
