Olympic hopeful chooses Beswick as home

British Olympic gold medal hopeful, Shanaze Reade has been given a boost in her preparations for Beijing by being given free accommodation in a new east Manchester apartment development in Beswick.

Shanaze (19) is a hot favourite for gold in the inaugural Olympic BMX competition and trains daily at the Manchester velodrome.

Bury based house builder, Gleeson Homes has given Shanaze a 2-bedroom apartment to use in the run up to the Games at its City East development, just a few minutes bike ride from the velodrome.

Originally from Crewe, the current BMX and track team sprint world champion, Shanaze said: “This apartment is great and it is so good to be just around the corner from the velodrome.

“I have got such a busy race programme this year in both BMX and on the track it was vital I could live near the training facilities. Gleeson has been amazing giving me the use of a brand new apartment.”

Shanaze successfully defended her world team track team sprint title in Manchester last week, helping to set a new world record in the process, and returns to her first love of BMX, firstly for the European Championships in Switzerland and then for the World Cup Supercross in Denmark.

She will compete in the World BMX Championships in China before taking part in the Olympic Games in August.
