A Future with Cars: Opinions wanted
The link between cars and climate change continues to be one of the hottest topics on today’s news agenda. It’s also been the subject of a series of illuminating articles appearing in Autocar magazine over the last few weeks, written by leading car and carbon emissions expert Richard Parry-Jones. And now’s your chance to get involved in the debate. With its ‘A Future with Cars’ series drawing to a close, Autocar wants as many drivers as possible to be part of the grand finale. In collaboration with Richard Parry-Jones, it has drawn up a short questionnaire located at autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Honda-Concepts/235943/ to find out what motorists really think about cars, climate change and carbon emissions. It takes less than five minutes to complete, and the results will be published in Autocar on November 26th.
“Cars are part of the climate change problem, so they must also be part of the solution,” said Richard Parry-Jones. “That challenge is both enormous and exciting.
“For every passenger kilometre travelled in an average car in the UK today, about 130g/km is emitted, compared with about 100g/km for an average bus and 80g/km for an average train.
“If motoring is to be made sustainable, the figure for cars must be cut to about 40g/km, but we will have the technology to achieve that by 2050. Other industries also need to be made as proactive as the motor industry in helping to solve this problem.”
