Weston-Super-Mare gets Redrow revamp Redrow is leading the charge with a one-of-a-kind conversion project as plans to give Weston-super-Mare a major facelift gain momentum. Leading by example, Redrow’s Knightstone Island development has become the proverbial jewel in the crown of this coastal region, where a number of redevelopment projects are underway and planned for the future.

Thousands of new homes are planned for the area in the next 20 years, with 9,000 in east Weston-super-Mare and 3,000 in the existing settlement boundary, transforming Weston-super-Mare into a coastal property hotspot.

The Draft South West Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) was published in April 2006 and put forward recommendations for housing plans for the next 20 years. Over the last six months the Government-appointed panel, who examined in public the Draft RSS, has attempted to predict market growth and concluded at least 12,000 new homes needed to be built to deal with the demand.

Plans to redevelop Birnbeck Pier and Island, less than a mile from Knightstone Island, to its former glory as a fashionable destination for tourists and locals alike are also progressing.

Knightstone Island has been a huge success, with just a few apartments remaining. Sandra Hughes, sales manager for Redrow Homes (South West), said: “Our Knightstone Island development in Weston-super-Mare was a fantastic opportunity for Redrow to invest in the future of Weston-super-Mare. The town is on the up and we are delighted to be part of that growth.

“We’ve spent time restoring the old Victorian buildings as well as building our own. Island living is a unique experience but our apartments have been selling very quickly, so people will have to be quick if they want to snap up one of the last properties.

Prices range from £165,000 for a one-bedroom Pavilion apartment to £410,000 for a three-bedroom Beacon apartment

The two-bedroom show apartment is open daily from 10am till 5:30pm.
